Common wire solutions

I have a Goodman with ac and gas heat. after several years of working fine the battery is starting to fail and after reading multiple threads I connected the blue wire to C at the air handler and thermostat but get a reading at the thermostat that shows no power to the C. Should I connect the blue wire differently at the air handler?

Hi Tbone29650,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have. Could you please share the photo of the wires connected to your control board and to your thermostat? Also, what is the exact message and code displayed on your thermostat screen?

Best,

Jenelyn

Hello there,

Thanks for trying. Could you please tell me what are the labels on each terminal of your control panel and what is the color of the wire connected to it? Check as well if you could find the model number of your HVAC system.

Regards,
Jenelyn

The control board has the following labels:

YWRGC

Y - a red wire from the ac outside and the yellow wire to the thermostat and connected to the Y at the thermostat

W - white wire to the thermostat and connected to the W

R - red wire to the thermostat and connected to the R

G - a green wire to the thermostat and connected to the G

C - a white wire to the ac outside and a blue wire to the thermostat and connected to the C

the thermostat shows that all are connected but not the blue wire connected to C

I have a Goodman unit with the air handler, gas furnace and evaporator coil under the house and the compressor and condenser coil outside.

I believe the Model numbers are:

A/C - GSX160301

Furnace - GMSS960803BN

3636 Hirizontal Butt Up - CHPF3636B6

Hello folks,

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Thanks for the help here, Jenelyn.

We appreciate your effort in listing them down, @Tbone29650. Please make sure that the C wire on your thermostat's base is on the right terminal and properly connected. In line with this, could you please check the power readings on your actual thermostat's Technical Info?

Mark

Hi there,

Chiming in — could you please share with us your Nest Thermostat power readings?

I appreciate your help, Mark.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hey Mark

I’m away from home at the beach until the 29th
Can I get that from my app or only the actual thermostat? If from the app how do I find it? I looked and don’t see anything except the battery power.
Thanks!!

Hi there,

Thanks for the follow up information. You will need to have the Nest Thermostat in front of you since you can only get the power readings in the actual device.

Best,

Jenelyn
