Common wire

Grimreaper42

Tried installing a 1st gen google nest. Wires from old is rh and w. Installed and needed a common c wire or google power cord. My electrician helped me and still can't detect common wire. We tried three different wires. I bought a 18/5 thermostat wire and strung it through and connected. It was too short, we added 1 foot of stranded wire to it (I see no stranded wire) but he is unsure why it shouldn't work, he checked voltage and he is getting 30 volts from RH-W. So I left the new wires connected, disconnected just the common, grabbed the old rh wire that hasn't been tampered with and plugged to common to common. Still undetected

It sounds like you will need an external 24VAC transformer and the Nest Power Connector.

I just saw the message and will gladly try this with transformer if it will work with an electric furnace. It's not a HVAC. 2 speed blower motor. Schematics and wires

Google is sending another thermostat to see if that work, possibility ine I have might be faulty.... just waiting for it. I will follow up

Does the transformer need to a 24v/20va?

Or can a 24v/40va work as well?

The 20va ones I have found needs to be plugged into a wall. And the 40va can be hard wired in.

Hope pics turn out. It's just a heated 2 speed motor blower,  the pics of nest is before adding a common, second is when a wire is directly connected to it. Code is N261. If the transformer is still an option I will go and get one. Thank you.
