Compatibility of Heatlink Gen 2 and Nest Thermo Gen 3 after Oct 25th

Ive seen from previous community correspondence that it is possible to use the Nest Thermostat Gen 3 with the Heatlink v 2 without changing any wiring. (Im based in the UK and have no requirement for Hot water control)
There was concern that after the discontinuation of software support of Nest Gen 1 and 2 on Oct 25th that it would somehow impact Heatlink 2 functionality/compatability with Nest Gen 3.  Did anyone have any issues?

Hi Bixieupnorth, Thanks for your note.  I read your exchange with frustratedd with great interest.  I had 2 questions.  One was I got the impression that you had a new v3 thermo and heatlink (the full package) but it only cost you £85.  If true where did you get it?!  Secondly can you double confirm that you didnt have to touch any wiring in your heatlink system.  Sorry, like you Im a bit nervous about all this.....thanks again.

I bought a complete 3rd generation therm and heatlink when I first heard the news.

After seeking advice on here I found it fairly easy to pair the new display with the existing heat link, and then sat and waited for the dreadful day to arrive. Only to find that nothing happened...

However, yesterday, I needed to log back into Google on the nest app. Once I had, everything works as it used to. So go for it, but keep an eye out for the inevitable pulling of the plug on the 3rd gen in a few years time!

Thanks to frustrateddd (excuse the spelling) for his invaluable advice

Hi,

It wasn't new, I got it from eBay. An utter bargain, but still £85 I didn't need to spend thanks to Google's decision to abandon us.

I left the 2nd gen heat link alone, so didn't need to touch it apart from to find the pairing code inside the cover. The 3rd gen thermostat connected with it after a couple failed attempts, so I have a fully working system of a mixture of 3rd gen display/2nd gen heat link.

I'm left with a useless 2nd gen display and stand, which no one in their right mind will want to buy, and a 3rd gen heat link which hopefully won't ever be needed.

I hope you manage to find a way around the sad state of affairs.

Cheers

There are a few available on eBay as of now, but mostly north of £100. I'm sure if you bide your time something will come up, eBay is definitely a buyer's marker these days.

Good luck.

Hi Bixieupnorth,

Just to let you and the community know that like you, I successfully installed my Nest 3 this morning with a Heatlink  2, simply by swapping over the thermostats from v2 to v3 and fiddling about a bit with the app.  Once again thanks for all your support, more proof that it can be done!
