Contacting from a K-12 public school. I am considering purchasing Nest Thermostats for our new pre-k building(because no one from our operations or maintenance will be at that site, and we wish to monitor heating and cooling), but wasn't sure if I would be able to setup a nest with a managed educational domain. Anyone know if that is possible?

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry and your interest in having a Nest Thermostat.

For seamless use with all Nest devices, I suggest using a Gmail account. Also, here are the types of accounts that won't work with Google Nest devices:

• Business or enterprise accounts.
• Google Workspace (G Suite) accounts.
• Group distribution accounts (Example: a single email address with multiple recipient email addresses).
• Accounts already linked to another Nest Account.
• Accounts for minors, managed by a parent or guardian.

I don't think I asked my question approperatly, but we do use a branded Google Workspace domain, but want I wanted to make sure that we could register Nest devices to that Google Workspace for Education domain, as it's not just a "gmail.com" account. Does that make sense?

Thanks for letting me know.

Google Workspace accounts are accounts set up by businesses or organizations to access different Google business productivity tools. At this time, you can’t use a Google Workspace account because the account data is managed by your organization and limits access.

Hi Mel,

If you can simply confirm what Mark mentioned on Friday, I would appreciate it.

Basically, I just wanted to know if I could use an account on my Google Workspace domain to set up Google Nest products, specifically, Thermostats. Or if I have to use a generic @Gmail.com account.

@wiretraveler21, to create a new account for use with the Nest app, you'll need a Google (Gmail) Account. If you don’t have one, first follow these instructions to create a Google account. Then, follow the instructions here to create your Nest App account.
