my home has dual thermostats and I have 2 Nests. One up and one down. However based on a recent furnace checkup I learned that I do not have a split furnace. Which means that when only one thermostat fires the furnace over heats. Here’s is my question. Can I somehow get the nests to be In. Sync so that they both fire at the same time. I know that one area may be permanently warmer or cooler than the other. We are prepared for that. Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated. A new furnace and A/C unit is over 10k

Hi DuckDiggler,
Thanks for posting. Dual thermostats controlling a single furnace can cause issues like overheating when only one is active. To avoid this, consider installing a zoning system that divides your home into different zones and controls temperature independently. This system uses dampers in ductwork to direct airflow to specific zones based on thermostat settings. This provides separate temperature control for different areas of your home while ensuring the furnace operates properly. Although it may require professional installation and be more expensive than a single furnace setup, it provides the desired level of control and comfort. Alternatively, adjust the temperature differentials between the two thermostats to ensure both areas are adequately heated without causing the furnace to overheat when only one is active. This may involve finding a balance between slightly warmer or cooler temperatures in one area to prevent overheating. Experiment with different temperature settings and monitor temperature in each zone to achieve a comfortable compromise.
Let us know if that helps.
Best,
Zoe
