Trouble with C wire

Hello nest community! I have wired up my nest thermostat using my previous thermostat as a guide, plugging the wires into the corresponding letters except the C wire as the previous thermostat did not use one. My issue is, when the thermostat calls for heat. The fan system toggles on for a quick moment and shuts down right away, and it will be in some sort of loop state where it repeats this process. I have removed the C wire to resolve this issue but now I am greeted with an e80 error. The e80 error is likely due to the fact that I live in an older condo building where the heat and cooling systems are switched between seasonally, so the y1 will not get any power. The only way I am able to get intended use of the thermostat is to remove the wires from the backplate when the corresponding system is not in use. Eg. I removed the y1 wire since we are using heat at the moment. This is quite a cumbersome solution for a thermostat, having to plug and unplug every year when the system switches. Is there any way to get around this and have all of the wires plugged in all of the time? Thank you very much!

Hi nest-enjoyer,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. I'd like to take a closer look at it. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? In what country are you located? What is the make and model of your system? Please share with us the photo of the wires connected to your system's control board, and on how you wired your thermostat. To compare, check your thermostat's power readings with and without its C wire.

Best,

Jenelyn
