Considering self-install of Thermostat E with Heat Link in place of standard 240V thermostat

I have a combi boiler and I am in the UK.

I am considering replacing my existing wall-mounted thermostat with a Heat Link controlled by a Thermostat E.

The wall plate is typical of UK installations and has simple L, N and Call pins and the thermostat is a simple switch that connects the L (240V a.c.) to Call when there is a demand for heat.  It is low current, goes to the control board in the boiler.

When reading up on Nest thermostats, there seems to be a lot of different information on compatibility that I cannot fathom.  Will the Heat Link work with this system?  Can it derive its power from the supply?

I see posts that talk of 240V being present at the wall plate for some.  But others talking of it not working with high voltage...

Thank you for your question @alanjenney . You may see in some cases mentioned that the Google Nest E is not compatible with high voltage. This is only in the case of the US model, as it does not use a Heat Link, it connects to low voltage directly. The EU version has the Heat Link included that is specifically designed to work with high voltage.

Here is the link to our EU compatibility checker page and tool: https://bit.ly/2J1gxEm . Also here is a link to a short video with the installation for the Google Nest E so you can get an idea on how it would go: https://bit.ly/2X5uDbn .

Thank you so much for your reply and for confirming that there are region-specific versions that operate with high voltage. Plus the links to the version I would get here in the UK. Marvellous. I am hoping that it will save me on my gas, so you have guaranteed my purchase of one.

I wonder how many other potential customers the compatibility checker is turning away!?
