Does the Gen 3 learning thermostat have a battery? Do I need a micro-USB port?

The nest learning thermostat third generation, does not have batteries that can’t be replaced or change. And yes it does have a micro USB connector so you can manually charge it if you need to

so, if you charge it and it still says low battery, what is the problem if there are no batteries to change?

The Nest Learning thermostat has built in Lithium Ion battery that is not replaceable. If you have a common wire from your HVAC equipment, Your battery should maintain approximately 3.9 to 3.94 volts. It will consume 1kW of power maintaining the battery and communications over the WiFi.

So, if it's not working does it need to be replaced?

SuzyB, can you go to your thermostat and check the power? Tell me what the values are for the power. To get to that, tap the thermostat and get to the menu, select setting, and rotate the ring until you reach Technical Info, then choose POWER.
you will see:
Battery, Voc, Vin, lin . What are the values reported.
If the battery is bad, then yes, you will need to replace the thermostat.
