There appears to be a mistake in wiring diagrams.
My units (Tempstar) the Y1 is compressor (defaults heat). The O/B is the reversing value or change over, that switches it to cool. All descriptions contradict this. Anyone have this as well?

Hi there CBlack,
Thanks for reaching out to our community!
There could be some confusion with some specific system's wiring. In this case, Y1 is for a compressor, which activates in heating and cooling modes.
Some HVAC systems might have different wiring configurations. In conventional systems, Y1 is typically used for cooling, while in multi-stage systems, it might control only the first stage of it.
This can lead to descriptions focusing solely on the cooling function.
If you want more information, I would recommend you refer to your heat pump's manual for the official wiring diagram, so you can verify what function your Y1 wire triggers.
Regards,
Angel.

Y (Y1 for these Google things) is triggered both by heat & by cool selection i.e. it is the compressor 'on' circuit. O/B is the reversing valve or changeover valve if that minimizes your confusion.
Even in setup test procedures the stat never notes it has activated O/B, only Y1 and G which is the same in the heat or cool cycles test, again proving Y is compressor. It does not show O/B is active, but testing board it is.
