E23 error after years of no issue

Today all of sudden the nest is black and we have no cool air. I pulled it off charged it and once I put it back on I’m getting e23 no power to the red cable. We have power to the breaker (on position), filter is clean, no ice in unit, no clog in drainage from unit. A/C unit is on just pumping out warm air. How come all of a sudden it has no power, it’s been fine for years!  We live in texas and need A/C how can I fix this?

Hello @Ashley14,

I definitely understand your concern about the error code E23 you are getting on your thermostat, but let me give you some troubleshooting steps to work with:

What to do if your thermostat doesn’t turn on? This can happen if your Nest thermostat has been without power for long enough that the battery is dead or if you’ve just installed your thermostat and there is no power to your thermostat wires so it can turn on.

  1. Remove your thermostat from the base by gently gripping the thermostat ring and pulling it toward you, away from the wall. The thermostat display should pop right off the base.
  2. Charge your thermostat with a USB cable for at least 10 minutes. Newer Nest thermostats use micro USB, the same type of charger as many cell phones, cameras, and other electronics.
  3. After your thermostat charges, reattach the display to the base. This should give your thermostat enough power to turn on and show you a message that can help you troubleshoot.

Even if you can’t get your thermostat to turn on, please follow this step to learn how to troubleshoot a thermostat with power issues during hot weather.

Please let me know how it goes.

It was a clog in the drain line, apparently it trips the power on our unit!, who knew. I had even poured boiling water in the line and it went through, but apparently there was enough of a clog to let the water pass and still trip the system.  It's working fine now.

Hello @Ashley14

That's awesome and I am glad that the system is working fine now.

Best regards,

Helio.
