Electric Bill Increased Since Installing Nest Thermostat

Hey y’all,

First time posting here, so my apologies if posted on the wrong category!

I’ve noticed since installing my Nest Thermostat-1.4 my energy bill increased significantly. It went from ~$160/bi-monthly to my last two bills being $341 and $550, so I definitely need to figure this out.

I’ve searched through all forums talking about similar issues to no avail other than people claiming it was user error. The only thing I noticed within researching was that in my temperature preferences, I had my “When you’re home” heat setting toggled to On. I’m assuming this is tied with the system keeping the heating element on and ready to go for comfort settings thus causing the energy increase? I feel this is the only logical explanation?

Hello blvckdivmond,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community Forum.

I understand that you're concerned about the increase in your electric bill since installing the Nest Thermostat. I'd like to assure you that this is a normal occurrence unless programmed differently. When you first install a new thermostat, it will take some time for it to learn your habits and adjust accordingly. During this time, you may see a slight increase in your electric bill. However, once the thermostat has learned your habits, you should see your electric bill start to decrease.

If you're still concerned about the increase in your electric bill, I'd be happy to take a look into this and see if there's anything else I can do to help.

Best regards,
Mark
