When setting up the nest thermostat, by default the fan activation is set to “don’t activate”
Is this normal for heating? I have a gas furnace and forced air.

Hi Aweiskopf,
Thanks for posting. The default setting of "don't activate" for the fan activation when setting up a Nest Thermostat is a common configuration for heating systems with a gas furnace and forced air. In many heating systems, the fan is set to turn on automatically when the furnace is heating and producing warm air. This is typically controlled by the furnace itself, which activates the fan to distribute the heated air throughout your home.
By selecting the "don't activate" option in the Nest Thermostat's fan activation setting, you are allowing the furnace to control the fan operation independently. When the furnace is actively heating, it will automatically turn on the fan to distribute the warm air, and when the heating cycle is complete, the fan will turn off. This configuration ensures that the fan operates efficiently and only runs when necessary, helping to optimize energy consumption and maintain a comfortable temperature in your home.
If you prefer to have the fan run continuously or at specific intervals, you can adjust the fan activation setting of your thermostat by following this fan control with a Nest Thermostat guide. However, the default setting of "don't activate" is generally recommended for most gas furnace and forced air systems.
Let us know if that helps.
Best,
Zoe
