Fan turns on but not the heat

When I hook up my google nest to my American Standard Freedom-80 Two stage, here is what happens

  • Fan comes on
  • Heat does not
  • I hear the furnace turn off and on, like it is trying to start the heat
  • I hooked it back up to my original thermostat and it works fine.

I’m having this same problem. Had my nest for a few months now . All of sudden it won’t heat up . I’m confused as to why

Have the same issue. It started last night 1-1-24 on a 3rd Generation that had been set up months ago.  Had HVAC tech out, everything works with heater.  Bought a new 3rd Gen learning thermostat, still same issue.  Installed a $15 old direct wire Ace Hardware thermostat, everything working perfectly. Almost seems like a software update was pushed that is causing this issue.

Do I need to contact Tech Support or will they answer directly on the forum?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We're sorry for any trouble this may have caused you. Let's look deeper into this. Based on everyone's description of the issue, it seems like you need a power connector or a C wire to provide an efficient amount of electricity, but before we jump into that, I wanted to gather more details about this. Can everyone  answer the questions below:

  1. Are you from North America or Europe?
  2. What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  3. Send us a photo of your current wiring.
  4. What is the make and model of your HVAC system?
  5. Do you have a multimeter?

Best ,

Renz

I have the nest Thermostat-1.4 . How do you add a pic of your wiring

Hello Nicoleash12,

Thanks for the update, based on the photo you sent us. You already have a C wire connected to your Nest Thermostat, do you have a multimeter to check the voltage?

If you have a multimeter, remove the display of the Nest thermostat, unplug the C wire, and unplug the RH wire.

  • Set the voltmeter to AC current.
  • Touch the C wire with the red test probes (positive wire) and touch the RH wire with the black probes (negative wire).
  • You should get a voltage reading, and it should be within 24 volts.

Do this on the wire connected to the W1 terminal as well.

If you’re not getting any voltage readings, we recommend that you contact our Nest Pro technician by going on their website, OnTech, or contact a local HVAC technician to look into yourcommonn wire.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Renz
