Furnace turned on on its own

We were away and came home to the furnace running. I didn't have my phone to turn it on and my partner didn't have the app open so doesn't appear he turned it on by accident. Is there a glitch or could someone have hacked it?

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. 

 

Just to confirm, are you the only one who has access to the account used to set up your Nest thermostat? Could you check your schedules and make sure that there's nothing scheduled on the day/time that the thermostat was turned on? Also, try checking your thermostat's energy history. This can help explain why your thermostat unexpectedly turned on or off, or why the temperature changed. Follow the steps below that match the app you use to manage your thermostat.

 

Home app

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your thermostat's tile > Energy dashboard.
  3. Select Day, Week, or Month.

 Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app and tap your Nest thermostat on the home screen.
  2. Tap History for a 10-day summary.
  3. Tap on any day to learn more details about why the temperature changed.

Haven't checked email in days. I did ask my partner if the app was open to see if it was accidentally turned on. It wasn't open. And no one was home when this happened.  We had not used our system in days/weeks, but if anything would have been turned on, it would have been the AC, not the furnace. To top it off, when the furnace randomly turned on, the temperature was higher than we set it at.  It hasn't happened since so don't know if it was a glitch or something else that I really hope it's not

Thanks for getting back to me. I do hope that it is  just a glitch too. Let's keep the thread open for a few more days to give time for you to observe your HVAC system and Nest thermostat more — keep me posted should it recurs.
