Nest Thermostat/ Heat Pump

How can this NOT be compatible? I just bought a condo with a heat pump. I believe it’s two stage for heat. Here’s a pic of my current Carrier Thermostat wiring.  Why wouldn’t this be compatible???  I am thinking it has to do with the “W2” wire and the “W1/O/B” wire

old Y1 goes to Y

old C goes to C

old W1/O/B goes to ???
old W2 goes to ???

old G goes to G

old R goes to R

Any suggestions or help on the correct wiring would be appreciated!   I didn’t check compatible first, ugh… as you can see, the Nest is mounted behind my old thermostat.  I had labeled and disconnected then encountered the problem, so I re-wired my old thermostat.

Thank you in advance!

Hi DanaNorman,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. Since you have a heat pump, you could put the orange wire to the OB terminal and the white wire to the W terminal.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi- thanks for replying.  I tried that wiring and it still would not work. I returned the Nest today.  It’s impossible to know if it’s a wiring /compatibility issue OR if I have a defective Nest thermostat.  I have installed Nest thermostats in other properties without any issue, yet those were not 2 stage heat pumps.  It’s not rocket science to connect the wires.  I’m going to try a different brand of smart thermostat that’s Alexa compatible. Thanks again!
