G-Suite and Google Nest Thermostat

RLyster

I had 4 Nest thermostats in my home before Google acquired Nest.  I just received a fifth thermostat (which is a Google product and looks different) and have had difficulty adding it to my home location using my G-Suite email address.  All other devices in my home (dozens of them) are part of (or linked to) the Google Home address with my G-Suite email address.  I gave up trying, and added the new thermostat using a very little used gmail address.  Of course, Google Home thinks this device is in a different home than the other devices.  How can I get this new thermostat into my Google Home account with my G-Suite address?

I understand that G-Suite is used by businesses.  I was in business.  I am now retired and I like my email address - it uses my last name as it's domain, and I've had the address for 20 years.  Why must I be an "active business" when, just like active businesses, I willingly pay for G-Suite, which has many other features that I like?  When the business was active, I was the only one in control of it - it was a solo practice.  Am I being forced to un-link all of my devices (as I said, there are dozens of them) and re-link them to the unused gmail address?  Why?  Isn't there some way around this?  Can I administratively (with my G-Suite account) give permissions for whatever is needed?

As a "super-administrator" I added the Google Home App to Google Work-spaces and approved its use by all members.  I believe it may take some time for this to apply (24 hours?), but I am wondering if anyone here knows the chances of me getting this to work.

Well, that didn't help.  What do I need to do?

I got a domain in college for my art. And manage my email through Google. It counts as a gsuite... This is frustrating.

You bet it is.  Google must have a solution for this.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about the frustrations with this, but I'm happy to look into this for you to figure out a solution.

After reading through these, a few things came to my mind.

  • Have you migrated your account to a Nest account?
  • Are you still having these issues?
  • Have you tried deleting the devices and re-connecting them again? Unfortunately, this may be the option that fixes things.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

I have 4 Nest Thermostats and dozens of other devices in my Google Home account under my G-Suite (Google Work Spaces) address. That address is what I've been using even before G-Suite arrived. I have been using G-Suite for many, many years now - and I like its features. Just got a 5th Nest Thermostat - this one being a device made under the Google banner - and it will not allow me to install it. It says I cannot install it under a G-Suite address. I've added Google Home to the Apps used by G-Suite, and have authorized all users to use it. That has not resolved the problem. To get the thermostat to work I've been forced to use a rarely used non-G-Suite Gmail address, so I now have two "Google Homes." Please help me get this working as a full team.

I believe I did migrate those 4 older Nest Thermostats, yes.  All are operating with my G-Suite address as the account "home."  The new thermostat will not install with the same G-Suite address.

If I traded the new Nest thermostat for an old one, would it work?

Hey there RLyster,

Apologies for the issues you're having with the Gsuite issue, I'm sure it might be frustrating but I'm happy to help.

Unfortunately I can't guarantee that if you switch the new Nest thermostat for an old one that you'll be able to get the issue resolved as the Nest app and migration doesn't support Gsuite email addresses currently. I am happy to take this feedback and pass it forward though as we are always wanting to improve our products and services.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

I’ve been trying to migrate my old Nest thermostat account to my GSuite account that is connected to my Google home. This seems to be an on-going issue that Google is unable or unwilling to resolve. Please make it to where GSuite accounts can take the migration. I use that GSuite account for everything, authenticate tons of services with it, so I will not be creating a separate Gmail account just for Google Home because that’s the only way I can get a full-featured Nest account. It makes no sense. Please fix this ongoing issue.

Is Google even trying to find a way for it's customers who pay for Gmail to use their Nest Thermostats?
