Google Decision to Disable older Nest Thermostats

Google's recent decision to disable all older Nest Thermostats from working with the Nest app is nothing more than a blatant scam to sell products. Our current Nest thermostats work well, we don't need or want newer hardware. There is absolutely no technical reason that the existing older thermostats can't continue to connect with the existing app moving into the future--especially when on our own local networks! This is a case of a company deliberately disabling a product to cause it to not continue functioning as originally sold. Why would anyone buy any Google product in the future knowing that they have no problem disabling it whenever they decide you should have to buy a newer version?  Really disgusted with their lack of ethics.

Absurd. The old ones work fine and this only contributes to all the waste humans are producing.

Yup. They just want to force us to buy new Google nests. No thanks. My old one works just fine. I will now go buy something else on Amazon. Maybe someone will make an app we can side load that will keep the older nests still working.

Agree. My 2nd Gen Learning says it’s never been updated, and generally works well, until recently when it insert temp setting into my schedule. Never happened before.

Yup.  Forced obsolescence calls for forced boycott.  Hello, Ecobee.
