Google Home and Nest Thermostat

I have a Nest Thermostat. When I tell Google Home to change the temp, the response I get is, "Your device does not support that functionality." Can I correct this?

Thanks for reaching out. I'd like to know more about it. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? In what country are you located? Is there an instance where your thermostat displays a low battery message? Do you receive any codes aside from the message? Please check if your thermostat is still connected to your Wi-Fi network.

Hi Jen. Thanks for responding. I live in the USA, I have a Nest Thermostat (just Nest, no "learning"). The device has fresh batteries.
The issue is when I ask Google Home to adjust the temp, the reply is "Your device does not support that function". How do I make that connection available?
