Google Nest 2 Thermostat Home

Hey alll! So I just recently bought 2 Google Nest Thermostats. One for upstairs and one for downstairs. I set them up myself, and they had a Y, G, C, W2, R, and O/B wire. My concern now… is that the bottom thermostat doesn’t turn on as often, since we keep it at 75 (keep in mind we are having 90-105 degree weather lately) and then on top we have it at 73 degrees. For some reason, I see that the graph shows the top thermostat is constantly trying to cool various times throughout the day. To give a comparison, the bottom cools for 4 hours or less in the day and the top cools for almost 12 hours or more a day. Is this normal? It makes me feel that my Honeywell thermostat did better? Can someone help me understand?

Hello KevinEstrada12,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that this can be confusing when having two Nest Thermostat versions, but they seem to operate differently. but I'd love to know more about this.

Are they both installed in one HVAC system unit, like a Zoning system? If so, as each thermostat calls for cooling, the panel takes the first call from any zone. If you decide that you want to cool them at the same time, it usually takes longer than usual, depending on how efficient your heat pump is at cooling your home. Please gather your thermostat's power readings in the Technical Info settings.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Mark

Hello Mark!

So yes they are installed on 1 HVAC unit. I believe it is a zoned one? There’s an extra bread box by the HVAC unit that I’m assuming is all the connections for the zoning?
