Google Nest Compatibility

I was chatting about three weeks ago about the compatibility of a Nest learning thermostat with my system. the reply I got was that it is and you gave the wiring. I finally bought the thermostat and asked my stepson to hook it up for me since I am useless with technology. He says it is complicated since I have a Lifebreath air exchanger and an Aprilaire humidifier. I have separate controllers for the air exchanger and the humidifier. Can I not just change out the thermostats without affecting the exchanger or humidifier. My stepson seems to think that just changing out the thermostat would affect the exchanger and humidifier. He figures I need to call a HVAC technician.

I could not add to my previous link since is locked

Hello Brianjs,

I totally understand your situation, and I appreciate you and your stepson's efforts for reaching out to us. I'd love to help.

We strongly suggest a professional installation since you have a humidifier. Incorrect setup, either due to incorrect wiring or incorrect software settings, could cause weird HVAC behavior and even damage your system. Also, please have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Thanks,

Mark

Yes I got your reply. Still have not decided what to do moving forward. My gut feeling is it should work since my thermostat only controls heat and ac, the humidifier and air exchanger have their own controls. But I do not want to damage my system. Problem is , my “gut feeling” is based on very limited knowledge.

Hey there,

We totally understand where you’re coming from. As mentioned by Mark above, we recommend a Nest Pro to help you with the installation. Also, you can check your device compatibility here.
