Google Nest Support asked for a verification code

Just had a call with nest customer support to discuss an issue with my thermostat. During the call they requested I shared a verification code which was sent to my phone. At the time, I gave it but then panicked as this didn't feel right. I have since updated all my security settings in case this was in fact a scam. If this is legitimate it really needs to be better communicated as I've google it and it says Google will never ask for a verification code.

If it was a 6 digit code you did the right thing with your follow-up actions. I'd also recommend checking this article:

If it was an 8 digit code in this format 123-45-678 found in the settings of the Google Home app that's a customer support code PIN and is genuine.
