Google Nest Thermostats Illegally Take Over and Change Temperatures

If you don't want Google to decide what your temperature at your house should be - don't buy or use their Nest Thermostat.

Google want to take credit for savings and fighting Climate Change by forcing a Seasonal Savings program on everyone without your permission.

This program kicks in automatically without your permission and is not easy to turn off. However, if you're able to turn off it won't stop permanently and it will activate again next season. Google doesn't give you the option to permanently disable this and his has the potential to also take over your thermostat under "emergency situations" where the local area you may live in decides to shut down or limit the use of heat or cooling to save power. Again, this is illegal.

This is a violation of privacy, tampering with people's own settings without permission, probably violation of a number of federal cybersecurity and hacking laws and a potential class action worth millions, give the number of people involved.

Agreed. Just came on here to post this. This POS thermostat is going in the trash as fast as I can find a replacement.

Hi Sopuga,

Thanks for posting in the Community! Sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat is changing the temperature without your request. I completely understand your concern with the Seasonal Saving feature. If you want to stop it, here you have the steps to disable:

Using the Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app > select the thermostat > select History.
  2. When Seasonal Savings runs, the screen shows you the remaining days for the feature and a Stop button.
  3. Select Stop to disable Seasonal Savings for the rest of the current season.

Using the Home app (Nest Thermostat 2020)

  1. Open the Home app > select the thermostat .
  2. At the top of the page you should have a banner that says that Seasonal Savings is active > Press on Learn more.
  3. The app will give you a small description of the Seasonal Savings program > at the bottom of the banner that appears the option Leave program.
  4. Press leave program.

Regards,

Axel.

Thanks Axel - but this doesn’t help. I was not asking how to suspend seasonal savings for the season. I never opted in the seasonal change program and you didn’t receive my permission to place me in it - changing my temperature to begin with. If you want to help tell me how to get off the program so I don’t have to repeat this every season

thanks
