Google Nest thermostat

"A forgotten PIN code may require you to have your thermostat reset in order to unlock it. A manual reset requires you to have your thermostat connected to a computer. To do this, please follow these steps:   Connect the thermostat display to a USB cable and connect it to a computer. Once the computer recognizes it, look for the folder named "TechnicalInfo.PLIST" " Regards, @Markjosephp (Community Specialist)

But I can not do that without a Mac and I do not have a Mac. How else can I reset my thermostat?

Even if you do not have your 4-digit PIN, as long as you have your Nest app and it’s logged in all you have to do is go into your Nest app and tap unlock.

I deleted the account by accident. I'm not able to log in.

What do you mean you deleted your account? All you have to do is reinstall the app, create an account using the same eMail ID as before, and you are all set. The app will remember the Nest Thermostat and you will be able to unlock the thermostat.

I apologize I meant I deleted the thermostat. And I'm unable to add/unlock it  because I do not have the passcode.

I tried to reset my account forgetting that the pin was locked. Now my account is reset and I can't get into it to get my pin number.

The app does remember nor able to provide you the PIN. It simply allows you to unlock the thermostat since the nest app account is linked to the thermostat.  So all you have to do is install the nest thermostat app, create an account using the original email ID that was associated with the account, and then you’ll be able to unlock your thermostat. Now on the other hand, if the thermostat was acquired from a previous owner, that owner would have the ability to unlock it for you.

The problem is I don't remember the pin number. Is there a way to factory reset the entire thermostat?

If you deleted the thermostat, you can always add that thermostat back. There is a QR code on the back of the display that you can use to add the thermostat back to the Nest app. You have to understand how ever that it can only be done with the original Nest app account that it was installed with otherwise it will not allow you to do it. This process is done that way in order to prevent someone from stealing a nest thermostat and being able to use it.

I deeply Appreciate the time you are taking to try and help me.I have tried to do that but it will not allow me without the code because it's locked. And i'm not able to get the code becais I can't log in.

I accidentally deleted the thermostat while it was still locked. So it's deleted and locked.

Please provide me exact steps you took to delete the thermostat.  My thermostat is currently locked and I want to take the same steps as you to see if I can recover it using my instructions I provided you.  It’s not easy to delete the thermostat from your app. That’s has to be an intentional step as it takes four steps, 1. open app, 2. Tap you thermostat on the app screen, 3. Scroll to the bottom and tap “Remove thermostat.” When you choose “remove thermostat” the app will open a pop up asking to verify you want to remove the thermostat from the home it is registered to. Step 4: You must tap “Remove” or “Don’t remove” in this verification step. So, it cannot be “accidentally” removed, it has to be intentionally removed.  Once you confirmed Remove software will also unregister the Nest App in the thermostat software as well. And if you do not know the 4-digit PIN you programmed into the Nest Thermostat to lock it, you are indeed out of luck.

I have seen where customer service can provide software to reset and unlock the thermostat using a computer and a USB cable. You have to prove you are the owner by showing proof of the warranty registration and purchase receipt for the thermostat. I always instruct my customers to not throw away the box the thermostat comes in. There is a label on the box showing the model and serial number.

Yes, sadly that is exactly what I did. Before researching anything my thoughts were to delete and "just start over", well as you can tell that did not work out for me.  Thank you for your time.

As far as customer service I do not believe they exist. Can't find them anywhere!

Hello folks,

Thanks for assisting, Jake

@atruemom, It's me again. I wanted to stop by and see how I could help. Do you have any personal computers with you, such as Windows OS or ChromeOS? If so, please try connecting your thermostat display using a USB cable and look for the folder.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Mark
