Google is giving me a warranty replacement, but I'm not sure what to send back?

They're issuing a replacement, but I'm not sure if I only need to send the device back, or if I should take the backing plate and hardware out of my wall?

I'm hoping I can just pop the thermostat off and mail that.

As far as I'm aware you don't need to return the backplate plate and mounts, but I would double check this with the support agent.
