That’s typical of google to get you to go out and buy another thermostat when there isn’t anything wrong with the one you already bought. Just like they do with their cellular phones and their partner in crime Apple. Let’s
stop supporting there thermostat so they forced to go buy our new ones. The same f—-king thing they do with their products. People we just need to buy other less expensive devices that do the same job. I definitely won’t be buying another and I agree with the blogger to boycott google’s nest

I just submitted a complaint to my Attorney General in my state. I advise you do the same. It was simple. Copy and paste letter you received in to the website. This is the second time they have done this to me.

I’m definitely not buying another Nest product because of this bull **bleep**! When I bought the thermostat I was not told I was going to be forced to upgrade in a later time!

I agree. I am contacting the consumer protection agency. They did the same thing with my 4 nest cameras which became inoperable when they stopped supporting them. This is absolutely unacceptable. The cameras and the thermostats are working properly but you are rendering them useless after we paid for them. It’s like buying a car and then telling me I can’t drive it when it hits 50k miles. This has to have some legal precedent with the consumer protection agency.

I'll never buy another Nest product after they rendered the old nest cameras inoperable. Note: this was not the typical consumer-electronics situation of "no loner supporting future OS upgrades". They simply turned off something that they had made profit from, with the expectation that we would all upgrade to their newer version. No.
Now they write an email stating "Unfortunately, we’re not able to move our older thermostats to this platform." Of course they're able to do it! Probably very easily - they have made a careful choice to NOT do that. Maybe with the belief that users will buy a new one, but regardless of that, obviously with the profit/cost calculation as #1 priority. i.e no regard for reputation or customer loyalty. This is The End for Google Nest - just give up and focus on AI - you don't have a clue with anything consumer electronics/user facing.

Yeah this is complete bs. How about, “Sorry for the inconvenience but to ease this transition, everyone that owns our older products, please send a picture of older nest device or proof of purchase and we will send out a new product free of change, and thanks again for using a product!“ ???
