Google nest thermostat override won't turn on AC

I had the nest thermostat installed three days ago by a professional.  It does not have a C wire.  It seems to cool the house according to the schedule but if I try to override it the fan kicks on but not the compressor.  Also the volume of air coming out of the vent is significantly less than with the older 25 year old thermostat.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

I'm very sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with your Nest Thermostat turning on the AC. To get a clearer picture of the situation, a photo of the Nest thermostat wiring would be very helpful. This would allow me to see if the connection is secure and in the correct terminals.
