Hi I have a house that has an existing google nest thermostat. When I tried to adjust it it went to a screen that says continue on Google home app. When I try to add it to me home app it says that I have to contact the owner. This is impossible I dont have their contact info and I tried to get ahold of the real estate agent with no luck as well. What can i do?

First thing to do is factory reset the thermostat:
Restart or reset a Nest thermostat - Google Nest Help
Then you should be able to go ahead with setup with your account.

It wont allow me to due a factory reset. It is stuck on the message to continue with home app

I tried removing the batteries as soon as I replace them the screen comes up with same message "continue on home app"

@Pluplu, I appreciate all the steps you've taken. Please make sure that you're using the Google Home app and that you are signed in with your preferred email address to be associated with your Nest Thermostat. Once verified, proceed by adding it to the app by scanning the QR code at the back of the thermostat display. Check out this article with the setup steps and let us know how it goes.
