Got low battery message, charged and now Screen goes blank and won't come back on

Have had Nest thermostat for about 5 yrs.  This morning got an "offline" message on my Nest (3rd generation).  As I was troubleshooting I saw a low battery message and a battery locked message.  So took unit off and charged with cable from an outlet.  Small red light was blinking so I believe it was charging.  The unit said to replace on base.  When I do replace on base unit the thermostat will turn on and I can briefly see the temp and the ring works but then it give me a message that it is restarting and  "will be right back" then screen goes black.  Has stayed that way for at least over an hr, won't come back on and screen is unresponsive.  Have tried the suggestions in the trouble shooting guide on how to restart an unresponsive unit but does not work.  Have taken it off and recharged off line several times today for up to a couple of hours.  Everytime I reattach the same thing happens.  When I connect base the small red light is visible blinking.  I have 2 other Nest on the same furnace and they are both acting normally.  Any suggestions as to what is going on?

Hi, @jimm1,

Thank you for posting in the community. I’m truly sorry the Nest thermostat is offline and it has a low battery. Thank you for taking the time to troubleshoot your Nest thermostat. Your efforts to charge the battery, restart the unit, and follow the troubleshooting guide are greatly appreciated. Let’s work together and find a solution.

The low battery in your thermostat might be due to a faulty battery or inadequate power supply. Please provide some information about your device so we can troubleshoot effectively.

  • How long did you charge the thermostat?
  • When did the issue first start?
  • Is this a new installation?
  • Is the thermostat display turning on? If so, are you receiving any power error messages?
  • Are the power breakers on, and is your home receiving power?

In the meantime, please follow these troubleshooting steps:

  • Carefully remove the thermostat's display and inspect the 20-pin connector for any visible damage. Examine both the male and female ends of the base and the display.
  • Verify that the thermostat wires are securely connected and all buttons are pressed down.
  • Since you mentioned a blinking red light during charging, it indicates a low battery. Recharge the thermostat using a micro USB cable for at least one.
  • After attaching the display, press and hold the screen for 10 seconds until you see it’s restarting. Please let me know if the thermostat turns on.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana

Hi   My thermonstate have been installed for about 5 years, There is power to the unit and all the breakers are on. I charged the unit several times the last time I charged it overnight for greater than 8 hrs. The light in front was blinking while it was being charged.  I have checked the pins and all 20 seem fine with none appearing bent or out of place. All wires appear secure. When I reinstall the thermostat it will come on but then says its restarting and goes blank and will not restart
