HOW DO I STOP NEST THERMOSTAT FROM CHANGING TEMP ON ITS OWN?

michaelzjody

I set my thermostat at night to 64 degrees.  When I wake up it is set at 68 degrees.  I DO NOT WANT THAT.  I have turned off ALL of the auto settings, and have nothing on the schedule, but it still does it.  HELP!!!

It would be helpful if Jeff and Jhonleanmel would help us out here rather than just telling everyone to try suggested steps and “stopping by” this thread.  This line of inquiry and frustration is significant and growing.  C’mon, Nest, tell us what you, as the manufacturer, advise as to how to SOLVE this problem.

Hi everyone,

@michaelzjody, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, do you have a Nest Renew? Are your Eco and Home / Away assists turned on?

Give these steps a try:

When you turn off Auto-Schedule, your existing schedule will remain but your Nest Thermostat will stop learning from your future adjustments.

In the Nest app:

  1. Open the Nest app and select your Nest thermostat.
  2. Select Settings Nest settings icon and then Auto-Schedule.
  3. Tap the switch to turn it off.

On your thermostat:

Choose Settings Nest settings icon and then Nest Sense and then Auto-Schedule and then Off.

I appreciate your response, Yaacov586 and Ellebeebee.

Regards,

Emerson

Thanks for this.  I have followed your suggestions and will let you know.  Had the AC on last night and when I woke up this morning the heat had come on even though my minimum temp is set to 50 degrees...I am getting tired of my two nest thermostats not working!

No offense, EmersonB, but we’ve all done what you’ve recommended above, but the thermostat continues to keep deciding that it knows what we want better than we do.  It’s quite HAL-like (2001:  A Space Odessey); any minute now I expect that my thermostat will speak and say, “I’m sorry, Elle, but I can’t do that.”

Ellebeebee you are completely correct!  And funny!

I need help.  I live in florida and my temp will not change and stuck on 80 degrees.  its been a week out of my life and i’m about to rip off wall.  and not getting any reponse to previous inquiries.  how does nest stay in business?????

my nest stays in blue mode and tells me it will take 2 hours to get to 70 yet never changes. tried reset tried to shut down all schedules ect…..

What are the steps?

We’ve all done the steps! It’s stop happening to all of us. I ordered a different thermostat and I’m changing it this weekend. So frustrated at the fact that the Nest thinks it knows what I want better than I do!

Greetings,

I have disabled all schedules and automatic settings. The thermostat keeps changing temperature on its own. Just want it to stay at 70-72.

I still have the problem of the nest thermostat changing the temperature at which I have set it. Often only a degree or two, but I DO NOT WANT the thermostat to change temps at all!

YES!  (Sorry to yell, but VERY FRUSTRATED with this issue).  My thermostat keeps resetting itself to 69 degrees (I have only heat, no AC).  It is hugely annoying that the heat comes on in my home when it is going to be 87 degrees in the morning.  MAKE THIS ISSUE GO AWAY!!!!

We have the same issue.  The thermostat has a mind of its own.  The thermostat randomly changes temperature in the middle of the night, during the day, etc.  The settings are to temperatures we didn't set.  Sometimes it drops to 60 at night, sometimes it's 61, sometimes it's 68.  We didn't set it to these temperatures.

That is why it is called Artificial Intelligence. No bearing with reality lol

Same thing. Set to 70 and 6 hours later its set to 76, about to throw this thing out.

I have turned off the phone tracking and deleted the schedule once a month and they turn it back on.

A month ago there was some bull**bleep** on the nest screen like an ad. Gtfoh

Same here! I have tried everything and if you noticed the last update was more than a year ago! IM DONE! I’m getting another brand!

I think I found the fix!

I had the same issue.  Turned everything off but the temp still kept changing automatically.  I called Nest and the fix for us was to reset the schedule that auto-scheduling had somehow learned/set up (even though we had turned off auto-schedule).

Just a few steps:

- On the Nest unit, go to SETTINGS

- then scroll all the way to the right and select RESET

- then select the second item AUTO-SCHEDULE

- then select RESET

- turn the dial to confirm

- it will take 10 seconds to confirm and you should be all set!

This video shows you these steps (go to 2:15 on the video to get to what you need):
