How to make a new "owner" of a device

My nest themostat is still working on the wall and I can control it there.  But I am not able to control it on my phone.  My husband was the "owner" but he died recently 😞    So I removed his name and thought I would be able to control it since my name was also listed.  But I guess not....since I'm not the owner.  I have tried to reinstall the Nest app but it still wouldn't let me.  I miss not being able to control the temperature from my phone.

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. The easiest way to resolve this will be to factory reset it and set it up as yours.
