Heat Cool lock range

I see lots of posts going back years about the inability to set a lock range in heat/cool mode, which is an essential feature for rental home use. It would seem like a simple feature to add, but for some reason it has never been implemented. Can someone from Google/Nest advise when this essential feature will be implemented please….

Hi U722580,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We'd be happy to take a look into this for you. If you’re using our Nest Learning Thermostat, you can set heat/cool mode and lock the Nest Thermostat so that no one can change the target range temperature. You can follow the steps below:

Nest Learning Thermostat:

  1. Press the thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Mode Thermostat off icon and press to select.
  3. Turn the ring to choose a mode, then press to activate it.
  4. Press again to confirm.

After setting the Heat/cool mode. Follow these steps to lock your Nest thermostat:

  1. Press your thermostat's ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings Nest settings icon and press to select.
  3. Turn the ring to find Lock.
  4. Press the ring again to confirm that you want to lock your thermostat.
  5. Enter a four digit PIN that's easy to remember, and enter it again to confirm.
    • Note: If you forget your PIN you can unlock your thermostat with the Nest or Home app.
  6. If you lock your thermostat in Heat•Cool mode, the Lock icon will appear at the bottom of the screen.
  7. If you lock your thermostat in Heat mode or Cool mode, you'll need to set a temperature range. Turn the ring to set the minimum and maximum temperatures. Press to continue.
  8. Press the thermostat ring to choose Done and lock your thermostat, or select Change if you need to make any changes to your lock settings.
  9. The Lock icon at the bottom of the screen shows that the thermostat is locked.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Renz

Hi Renz,

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately it doesn’t help!

The issue (as I previously said and as you’ve confirmed) is that it is NOT possible to set a temperature lock range when in heat/cool mode. There NEEDS to be a facility to set 2 lock ranges when in heat/cool mode. One for heat and one for cool. This is a KEY requirement when the Nest thermostats are installed in a rental (particularly a short term rental) home. Otherwise when the thermostat is locked in heat/cool mode there is NO possibility for the renter to adjust the temperature.
it would seem a simple, yet highly necessary enhancement to make.

When can it be added?
