Heat Pump 3rd Gen Wiring

flakbait

Trying to confirm I have wired our new 3rd Gen Nest learning thermostat correctly. It is a trane heat pump with six wires and a jumper on the old thermostat.

Old thermostat:

  • C: Blue Wire
  • O: Orange Wire
  • W/E: White wire (with red jumper wire to W2)
  • R: Red Wire
  • G: Green Wire
  • Y: Yellow Wire

Nest Thermostat:

  • C: Blue Wire
  • OB: Orange Wire
  • W1: White Wire ??
  • Rh: Red Wire ??
  • G: Green Wire
  • Y1: Yellow Wire

Not sure if the red wire needs to go into Rc on the thermostat, and if the white wire needs to be placed in w2Aux on the thermostat?

Hi flakbait,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Thermostats. Looking at the wiring configuration you did from your old thermostat to the Nest Learning Thermostat, it appears to be correct. Continue to wire it that way, as you said, or follow this image:

Take note that jumper wire is not needed for Nest Thermostats. Also, here's a guide for the installation and setup of a Nest Learning Thermostat

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe

@zoeuvre  if wired this way, does that mean that the nest never auto engages Emergency Heat (which would if the white wire ran into the @W2Aux port-then simply changing the setting on the Nest)?

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Yes, the thermostat will not engage with emergency heat since you don't have an emergency heat wire.

Zoe
