Heat does not work. Do I have a wiring issue?

JA7

Hello,

I followed the installation instructions to the letter. I was provided a wiring diagram from the Nest app setup and wired the system accordingly. When I switch to the heating function the heat does not switch on and fan will cycle continuously. Attached are the pictures of my wiring configuration. Is that brown wire a jumper between the W1 and X2 terminals on the original thermostat?

Yes, there is a jumper between W1 and X2 as well as RC and R. When I perform the tests, fans turn on during the heating phase but only cold air comes out of the registers. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Hi JA7,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community.

Let's check a couple of details for us to further assist you. It seems that you already connected the wire to the Nest thermostat correctly. The X1 wire is no longer needed. Since it looks like a heat pump, we could check the OB orientation and test if your heating works.

Thank you for your assistance, Patrick_Caezza.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hello Ryan,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to reinstall and check the OB orientation. Any other suggestions while I'm checking? If this doesn't work, I'll have to reinstall the original thermostat because I need a working system.

Thank you,

JA7

Hello,

Orientation did not work. As a matter of fact, I had a Nest installer come in to "reinstall" the thermostat. The thermostat turned on the heat when it was set to cooling and cooled when set to heat. He then said the thermostat was not compatible with my system and I ended up replacing it with a plain old "dumb" thermostat. Highly disappointed with the whole situation.
