I have gas heat which my Nest has worked well for years. Every night the heat fails to ignite. The fan blows cold air. I get up go to the garage and flip the breaker off, then a minute later I flip the breaker on. It continues to work until the next night. Only today it failed to kick the gas on in the middle of the day. This was after a maintenance HVAC call and they found nothing wrong.

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your heating system. It sounds frustrating that your heat is stopping despite the thermostat indicating it's on.

@Lida1, where your heat stops even though the thermostat says it's on, there could be various reasons for this. It might be worth checking if there's any obstruction in the heating system, such as a clogged filter. If the furnace activates while the fan doesn't, you might have the wrong fuel type on the thermostat. Gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings; this may help us determine if a power-related issue is behind this.

@TontoOne, with the gas heater and Nest Thermostat, the fact that flipping the breaker temporarily resolves the problem could indicate an electrical issue. However, since you've had a maintenance HVAC call and nothing was found, it might be a bit tricky to pinpoint the problem. You might want to consider consulting with the HVAC technician again, specifically mentioning the breaker-flipping workaround, as this additional detail could be crucial in troubleshooting the problem.

Stay warm, and I hope you find a solution to your heating issues soon.

Thanks,
Mark
