Heat wont turn off after reaching temp on nest

This is a intermittent issue. Randomly the heat will not turn off and continue blowing once the thermostat reaches temp. This does not happen often, 80% of the time everything functions normally. 

when it does happen, I have tried the test of removing the thermostat from the wall to see if the unit turns off. It continued running (I waited more than 5 mins). If I put the thermostat back on the wall and restart the nest, the heater stops blowing heat and turns off. 

When it has happened in the past i have restarted the thermostat and that turns it off as well. 

with this mixed result, not sure if it is a nest issue or a furnace issue. I am thinking of buying a non nest thermostat to see if the issue reoccurs. Does anyone have an similar experiences?

Same here...it won't stop blowing until I put it at their selected temperature...I select 72 degrees but it says room is 69 degrees and it will take 20 minutes to reach desired temperature,  but 30 minutes later,  it's still running and temperature has not changed.

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?

  • What kind of HVAC system do you have?

  • When did the issue start?

  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?

  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?

  • Do you see error codes on the thermostat screen?

  • Can you please send me a picture of the thermostat wiring?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? 3rd Generation

  • What kind of HVAC system do you have? Goodman HVAC (heat pump)

  • When did the issue start? after installing the nest in 2022 in our new house the AC worked no problem. that winter 2022/2023, and again in 2023/2024 winter it would sporadically happen  that when we needed to turn the heat on this issue came up randomly and now it is happening again this winter 

  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started? none

  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system? in the fall 

  • Do you see error codes on the thermostat screen? no 

  • Can you please send me a picture of the thermostat wiring? i just tried putting this picture and it said not permitted how can i send it to you?
