Just tried to turn heating on for 1st time. Thermostat all OK connected to heat link which has green light. Rebooted and connected but will not turn boiler on. Can't manually either. Any ideas?

Thanks

You say the green light on the Heat link is on, when you press the Heat link button to overide, do you get 3 green lights come up? Do you hear any click of the relays in the Heat Link when calling for heat?

3 lights came up but boiler did not activate. Been on chat with Google support and can't solve my problem.

Do you hear any click of the relays in the Heat Link when calling for heat?

Yes hear the clicks but no activation from the boiler

The clicks in the Heat Link are good, that sounds like the relays are closing/opening

You now need to confirm they are working, but you will need a form of tester. Do you have a Neon Scredriver type tester? All you do is - assuming the heating is NOT calling for heat, put the tester on the terminal number 1, and the you should see a bright light, then call for heat and that should change to a dim light. Terminal 3 will be the same, but in reverse.

With luck, if that proves as my instructions, the Heat Link is good, and you may have a faulty valve etc.

Thanks for all your help and with Nest support who had me connect my Thermostat to my mobile data to correct the issue. Heating on now 😁

Cheers 👍🏻

Hi @NoelW, thanks for reaching out. I'm glad to hear that everything is back on track with your thermostat. Is there anything else we can assist you with at the moment?

Thanks but still not idea why the system didn't work. Can you tell how to stop nest from randomly turning the heating on. I don't want to set up a schedule but turn on and off when needed. System turned itself on today when everyone was out 🤔

Could you tell us please if the Auto-Schedule option is still on?

I've turned the auto schedule off do hopefully this solves the issue 🤞🏻

It should, however, please reset the schedule and restart the thermostat before making any changes.

Hi, I wanted to check in. How has it been going so far?

Hi ,

The heating is working fine but it's coming on randomly. I've been turning off auto schedule but the heating comes on at strange time every day. Any ideas to change settings that it only comes on when I switch it on?

Thanks

Thank you for the information. Do you have that activity in the thermostat heating history? Check from the Nest app one of the days where it occurred by tapping on that day and then looking for a dot for that activation with the temperature. When you tap on it it should give you a description of what triggered that event. Let me know if you find it and what it says.

Hi Alex,

1st day it was triggered by auto schedule which I then turned off and the next occasions is because someone came home even though I've switched Home/Away features off. Just want to be able to switch heating on and off myself. Maybe Nest is far too advanced for my needs?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the information. You can check on the thermostat display itself, to make sure that the motion detection is disabled and Home/Away functionality is disabled in the settings. Here is a link with some information on how to use the thermostat as a traditional thermostat with information and steps on what you could disable and adjust.

Hi Alex,

Thanks again I'll give that a try and if I have any further issues I'll give you a message,

Could you please provide us with a picture of the hot water's schedule?

Hi,

Sorry can't figure out how to attach a photo. Just to say it seems when the hot water comes on it diverts some heat to the radiators. Is this normal?

@NoelW,

You can easily attach pictures by pressing the tiny camera in the determined area for replies. Are your radiators fully heated or just slightly warm when this happens? Also, by any chance, are the pipes for hot water passing near the ones that go to the radiators?

Thank you for the screenshot. Just to clarify, at the point when the hot water is activated, based on your schedule, your heating also comes on, correct?

Hi,

The heating Thermostat indicates heating off but radiators get warm when hot water comes on. Also hot water has become very hot since our issues.

Thanks

Thanks for clarifying. The hot water temperature will generally be controlled by a thermostat on the hot water tank or the boiler. Check to see if the water tank or boiler has a temperature you can adjust. The Google Nest thermostat only acts like an on/off switch. Even if the hot water is scheduled to be on 24/7 the thermostat should stop the heating even if the schedule says it should be on. Do you happen to know if your system has a Y plan, a single valve that controls hot water and heating, or a S plan, 2 separate valves for heating and hot water?

Hi AlexD

Turned down the temperature on the boiler and it seems to have worked. Thanks again for all your help,

Noel
