Heating min duration 1 hour

Hi All

Why can I not set the time the heating is on for within the app for a duration less than one hour. Yet the heating for my hot water is able to be set for min durations of 1/2 hours ??????? am I missing a software update ?? or user error ?? During this time of increased energy cost would be good to have greater control of the heating of 1/2 hour windows

Thanks for reaching out to us @gmac . I would be happy to try and assist.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking, based on your description, but you can check out this link here for information on how the schedule for heating works and how to adjust it. You can check out this link here to learn about how the hot water schedule works. Make sure to let me know if you have any further questions.

If you mean the interval between the 2 set points on the schedule, then the minim interval is for one hour. This is how the Nest Thermostat is designed. It needs time until it's warming up, at least 1 hour.

You have understood me to be correct.... but its not for nest to decide how long my heating is to be on for...... that is my job the operator as every house is different... so much so that it takes about 12 mins for all my radiators to become hot. What my question is why is the Domestic HOT Water heating set to 1/2 hour durations ???? and the central Heating only capable of ONE HOUR intervals. Surly the cleaver guys at google nest could also set the heating control to be half hour intervals giving the user greater control ???

I'm sorry that you're finding it inconvenient. Please rest assured that the heating system will turn off automatically when the target temperature is hit. In those cases where the difference between the 2 set points is bigger (for example if the ambient temperature is 15 degrees and your set point is 22 degrees, it usually takes longer to heat up, of course depending on the heating system and on the space).

In regards to the Hot Water schedule, the set points can have a minimum interval of 30 minutes, because heating up the hot water for less than that won't bring the water to the desired temperature and won't even get close if you have a bigger tank.

I don't want to change the Domestic Hot Water intervals to less than 1/2 an hour. 1/2 an hour is perfect !! what I'm saying is I want to be able to have the same control  for the central heating. The delta between the temperature and the time taken for the heat to convect from the radiators is dependant on many factors. What I want as the admin of my system is to set 1/2 hour intervals so some of the smaller operators in my family "the kids" even if they change the temp set point I know that it is not going to run for longer than 1/2 an hour instead of the current one hour situation. I understand your comments fully its just they don't meet the requirements of the user which it would seem would be a very simple programming fix. especially given the rising cost of energy and the customer control requirements of today

Thank you for all the feedback @gmac . My colleagues are always looking for ways to improve our products and services. Should there be any update/change to the functionality, we'll make sure to let everyone know on our official channels.

Keep in mind that how long the thermostat is going to run will depend on the location and the requested temperature. Higher set temperatures will take a longer time to be achieved and currently, schedule setpoints have to be 1 hour apart minimum.

I will go ahead and close this thread but if you have any future suggestions or questions that we can assist with, make sure to open a new one.
