Heating turning on when set to Away

GrahamH

Having returned home after a few days away I was surprised to find the my heating had been activating whilst I was away despite setting my thermostat to away.   The temperature seem to have been set to those in the schedule, and  the temperature did not drop as low as the eco temperature whilst I was away.

I thought that setting the thermostat to away would only activate heating if the temperature dropped below the eco or the emergency temperature.  Have I misunderstood how this thermostat operates?

Hiya GrahamH,

Thanks for posting in our community.

Your Nest thermostat lets you adjust the temperatures at which heating or cooling triggers in Eco mode. However, if you turn any of these temperatures off, your system will only turn on the heating when it reaches your set safety temperature.

If your home is set to Away but the system turns on anyway, check if your thermostat is online. An offline thermostat can't participate in Away mode settings. Additionally, look for other devices that might be influencing your home/away status, you can do this by:

  • On the Nest App: Settings >Home/Away Assist >What decides if you’re home
  • On the Google Home App: Settings >Presence sensing

Several devices can trigger unintended mode changes. To prevent this, disable motion sensing in the app for any device that might cause unexpected activity.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angel.
