Hi,
My nest heatlink appears to have failed overnight.
No powercuts as I have a UPS that would have told me.
It is unresponsive to the button, power cycle does nothing and no lights on the front at all.
If I plug the USB in under the faceplate it lights up and connects to the thermostat but wont control the heating.
I'm hearing this is a common issue with Gen 3 heat links, how do I identify it is a gen 3 heatlink? I know it is a gen 3 thermostat.

Sadly a common problem, and all for a £1 component!
Plugging a USB into their does nothing to help you.
3rd Gen HL can be proved by looking from the left, you have Neutral & Live, followed by terminals 1 to 6.
2nd Gen only has terminal 1 to 3

Great thanks. I've logged the issue with Nest for replacement.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I am indeed sorted for now, a BOXT engineer came and replaced my heatlink.
They replaced it with identical hardware to the failed one though and the engineer was clear they are doing hundreds of these a week. It strikes me this is a never ending circle of failures so I'm looking to swap out to a HIVE or TADO to avoid another few days without heating.
