Hello! If we switch from a one stage to a two stage air conditioner, should we reset our nest?

We upgraded to a two-stage unit this summer.  The unit outside does not turn on even when it says stage 2, just runs constantly blowing warm air around.  It says stage 2 but acting like stage 1 until I shut off the breaker to the AC unit, turn nest up to 80.  Then turn it to where we want it.

We have a 3rd gen thermostat and three sensors.

My biggest complaint is it works some of the time and not others.  So frustrating to wake up to 85 degree bedroom and see it’s been running all night but the unit isn’t on.

HELP!

Hi Amy,

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the community! We're happy to hear that your home is a Nest one. Let's look into this issue together.

You might need to reset/factory restart your thermostat as well as adjust the wires on a two-stage air conditioner, as the device will need to work differently than if it were a one-stage. This might also account for the air conditioning issues only working some of the time. Here's more about how multi-stage heating and cooling systems. When you re-install, your Nest should provide a different wire configuation, especially if it's an O/B dual-transformer system.

Important: If you’ve connected a humidifier, dehumidifier, or multi-speed fan wire to the star connector, we strongly recommend that you get help from a pro. To get a professional to help install and set up your Nest products, contact our installation partner, OnTech.

Let us know if we can answer any other questions for you. I hope this helps!
