Help! Nest Thermostat wont complete setup process

The setup process for the Nest thermostat keeps ending prematurely. Here is what I have done

  1. I have the wiring setup complete.
  2. Begun setup in google home app by tapping add device
  3. it searches then asks me what to add and I select thermostats and nest
  4. it prompts me to scan the QR code
  5. It starts setup asking me what language
  6. It asks me what wires I have (W, Y, G, R)
  7. does a power test asking me the fuel source for the heat (electric) and what kind of heat I have (forced air)
  8. Finally it asks me if the nest should be in heating or cooling mode today (I select cooling)

After this last step, the screen on the nest changes from a setup screen to a operating screen, at the top it says to finish wifi setup in the home app. In the app, after I select that the nest should be cooling today, the app returns to the devices screen. The nest is not listed as a device.

I have attempted to restart the setup from here, but it fails. So then I tired a factory reset on the Nest, and starting over from scratch. The factory rested just leads to the same result every time.

Bluetooth is on on my phone, I have given the app every permission it asked for. This seems like a bug.

As it sits right now, the thermostat is only partially functional. I can select a heating/cooling temperature setting, but I cant setup any schedules which is the whole reason I have the unit.

Hi GMAT,

Oh no! Sorry to hear about that. Let me take a look at this for you.

Are you located in North America or Europe? What message or code appears on the app that prevents you from completing the setup? And have you tried to use another phone or tablet, whether it's an Android or an iOS device, to set up the thermostat on the app?

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me. I am located in North America. There is no error message, the iOS app just returns to the device list, but with no Nest Thermostat on the list. I will try with another device when I am able.

Hi there,

It sounds like a plan! Please make sure that you have the latest version of the app that includes the latest bug fixes and features.  It's recommended that you set your phone to get automatic app updates so you get the latest features and improvements as soon as they're available.

To automatically update apps, go to the following articles:

Thanks for the input, Zoe.
