Keep in mond as you read this that:
1) I have 2 thermostat, and both were bought & installed about 4-6 months ago with no issues
2) My 2ndthermostats is still working perfectly.
Issue:
The issue started when Nest App (android & ios( said thermostat was offline. The thermostat was blank with red blinking light. I have manually recharged it serveral times (once overnight), but shortly after (1-2 hours) screen goes balnk and get red blinking light. Last couple of attemts after a reset I skipped over setting up wifi, to ensure it was contributing to battery loss.
Tests completed with no resolution:
a) reset wifi and modem
b) power on/off heating/cooling system
b) reset wires to thermostate base
c) reset the device several times - wont connect to wifi, last 4 attempts I have skiiped setting up wifi
c) after charging overnight & shortly after reconecting, the thermstat Power Tech Info showed: Battery:3.655V, Voc: 37.64V, Vin: 7.49V, lin: 20 mA(a) 3.655V before eventually going balnk and red blinking light (therefore unable to get readings)

Hello fbel,
I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your thermostat not holding its charge and draining its batteries. I'd be happy to shed some light on the situation here.
When the battery in your Nest Thermostat stops being able to recharge itself using the thermostat wires, it disables some smart features, including the Wi-Fi connection, in order to save power. This time, you will need to attach the Nest Power Connector or a common or C wire in order to properly power your thermostat. A common wire has no influence over any heating or cooling processes; its only function is to supply constant electricity and maintain the current flow into the thermostat. You'll need to install a C wire or a Nest Power Connector if your Nest thermostat experiences power issues or its battery drains regularly.
Let us know if you have more questions.
Regards,
Mark

I walked through my issue with Nest support over the phone & was determined to be a faulty Thermostat.
