Help Nest thermostat won’t stop heating house

Help! I installed a nest learning 3rd generation thermostat, but it isn’t working. We have an oil furnace and central air. I replaced the existing thermostat with a nest, but it isn’t working properly.

When installing, I state that the heat is forced air and it asks for o or b wiring, I get different results. If I select O or I don’t know, I get cold air coming out of the vents. If I select B, I get heat, which is good, but it doesn’t shut off….even after it reaches the temperature selected or when turned to off. The only way to turn it off is to turn off the furnace. It was still heating after an hour after reaching temperature.

Wires are connected to Rc (red), C (blue), Y1 (yellow), G (green), O/B (white).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Erin

Hi ErinF1,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that your heat won't stop after installing a Nest Learning Thermostat. Do you have a heat pump system? And could you share here the photo of your previous thermostat wiring configuration and a photo of how you connected the wires to the Nest Learning Thermostat base so I can take a closer look?

Keep us posted,

Best,

Zoe
