I have a 2nd gen nest learning thermostat and I want to verify my wiring is correct. Got my first electric bill and it was very high. I do have an electric heat pump system. The wiring on my old thermostat was R,Y,C,W,G,W2. So for the new nest I have Y1,G,Rc,W1,W2, and C. Is this correct? Any help is appreciated

you say that you have a heat pump however you have no wire attached to the *OB terminal. This terminal is used to control the reversing valve to switch the heat pump from cooling to heating or from heating to cooling. Also when you have a heat pump, there’s normally auxiliary heating when the heat pump has to defrost. That auxiliary heating is wired to W2. When you have a wire on W1 and a heat pump, it assumes that this is a dual fuel system. You have a gas furnace with a heat pump. in your particular case if you don’t have the heat pump hooked up what you’re doing is using your electric heat strips to heat your home and that’s extremely expensive.
on your old thermostat and all likelihood the wire attached to W was your reversing valve. And W2 was your auxiliary heat.
try moving the wire from W1 and put it on *OB. Run heating test and see if it puts out heat.

Thank you that was the final fix. I ended up calling nest customer support and they had me connect to the O/B and W. Unfortunately that made my furnace run non stop. But I saw your message and was able to rewire it correctly. So thank you so much for your help
