Home/Away Assist switches from Away to Home after Flume water sensor installation

Hi, folks. I installed a Flume Water Sensor in my vacation home. Ever since, my Nest Thermostat “Away” setting keeps flipping to “Home” due to “Activity”. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution?

Thank you!

Hi @Davech,

Thank you for your timely post  and the comprehensive information you've provided.

I understand you're encountering some issues with the Google Nest Thermostat "Away" setting constantly switching to "Home" due to "Activity" after installing the Flume Water Sensor. I know how frustrating it can be when technology doesn't work as it should. Don't worry; I'm here to help you.

To assist you further, please provide me with the following information:

  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a change in Wi-Fi network or relocation of the device?
  • When did this behavior first begin?
  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area?
  • What is the model of your smartphone?
  • What are the troubleshooting steps you've already tried? If so, which steps have you tried already?
  • On your Google Home app did you have all the access to your Google Nest Thermostat?

Thank you for your attention. I await your response.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Thank you so much for your kind reply, Jeremy. Flume Support was also very responsive but as bewildered as I have been.
I’ve had my Nest learning thermostats for years and never experienced any difficulties. However, I’m beginning to think the problem has somehow cured itself after over 14 incidents in the 24 hours after installing my Flume. No other changes with my router or connected devices. I have an iPhone 14 with up to date iOS, to answer your questions. I shut off Home/Away Assist for a couple of days before trying it again. I do believe there was lightning in the area that evening though I was Away.

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been having with your Nest thermostat. I understand that it was detecting that you were at home even though you were away and that this issue started just after installing flume water. In order to clarify the situation, I'd like to know if you still need assistance with this case. If you do, here I have some other questions for you that will help me find the way to help you further.

  1. What is the model of your Nest thermostat?
  2. What app do you use to control it? The Google Home App or the Nest App?
  3. The issue stopped happening just after turning off the Home and Away assist?

Meanwhile, you can let the Home and Away Assist off if it temporarily solves the problem.

Please check the following articles: Manually switch your home to Away or Home mode and Nest Home and Away not working

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

Thank you, Daniel. I think I’m good, so far. It will remain a mystery, I guess.

Just to complete the thread though in case it happens to someone else, T3007ES is the model. I use the Nest app, and I turned off activity sensors in Home/Away assist for a couple of days except for when I could actively monitor it.
