Hot water combi or system setting

Rup

After some issues with my gen3 learning nest I bit the bullet and did a factory reset.

Now the only way to get hot water is to set as “system” boiler in initial setup, when what I actually have is a combi boiler. If I set as combi there is no nest hot water control at all with the boiler not recognising any demand for hot water.

Is it ok to use the system boiler setting with a combi and just flick it on with the app when I need hot water or is this a historical wiring issue that needs fixing? Would be nice to have hot water on demand as you might expect from a combi system.

The nest setup has been running for several years but is new to me. Nest kept hanging with connectivity issues since removing the previous owner hence the factory restart. It seems to work fine now but only set to system boiler.  The boiler is a 12 year old Worcester with temperature control dials so demand is on/off only.
Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks for reaching out to us @Rup . I would be happy to try and assist.

Combi boilers usually don't have hot water control. Combi boilers have hot water on demand, that means that when you turn the tap to hot water the boiler heats the water instantly.

System boilers are made up of 2 parts, the boiler and a separate hot water tank.

This is why the hot water section is not available when selecting a combi boiler in the settings.

If you do have a setup with a combi boiler with a separate hot water tank you can select under system type "Other". This should give you the hot water schedule option.

If you don't have hot water on demand from your system or something odd going in with the wiring I would recommend you get in touch with a Nest Pro or your preferred local installer the have a look at the system.
