How can I tell if the Power Connector is working on a Google Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen?

How can I tell if the Nest Power Connector is wired correctly on a Google Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen? I don't see any references to the Power Connector on the thermostat, and the wiring diagram on the Equipment screen looks the same as before I installed the Power Connector.

Hello @cocolia,

Thanks for reaching out. It seems that your Power Connector installation is not done correctly. This video guide also provides a step-by-step guide to ensure you are installing the Power Connector correctly. If it is still not detected, you can troubleshoot by running a power test

Hope that helps! 🙂

It is currently installed just like the video guide states. My question is, what am I supposed to see on the thermostat screen after the Power Connector is installed?

BTW, there is no Power Test feature on the Nest Learning Thermostat, so there is no way to do what you suggested...

How is the Nest Learning Thermostat wired?

How did you wire the Google Nest Power connector?

Can you post a picture of the thermostat and power connector wiring?

Everything is wired as instructed, but I didn’t noticed any changes in the thermostat or on the app. Do you get any confirmation on the app, or on the thermostat that things are working?

Hello @cocolia,

If everything is connected right, the screen should read “Nest Power Connector Detected.”

Is this on the Learning Thermostat 3rd gen? On which screen am I supposed to see this, can you share a screenshot?

Hi everyone,

@cocolia, thanks for posting here in the Community. Can you help me with your Nest Learning Thermostat's power reading after the Nest Power Connector was installed?

  1. To open the Quick View menu, press the thermostat’s ring.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Turn the ring to highlight Technical Info then press the ring to select it.
  4. Select Power
    • VOC
    • VIN
    • IIN

I'll look forward to your response.

I appreciate the help, listairee and Patrick_Caezza .

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Please try factory reset your Nest Learning Thermostat then set it up again. Go to Settings and then Reset then look for All Settings. After that, check for the power readings again.

Best,

Zoe

Hi there. Yes, I reset it, and the numbers are the same. There is no reference to the power connector, though.

Hello there,

To check the battery level, bring up the Quick View menu > Settings > Technical Info > Power. Look for the number labeled Battery.

  • If it’s 3.8 volts or higher, your thermostat is getting the power it needs.
  • If it’s below 3.6 volts, there might be a power issue that’s causing your thermostat to disconnect or incorrect Nest Power Connector installation.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Regards,

Mark
