How long for the basic Nest Thermostat to get temperature correct?

The instructions say that it may take a while for the thermostat to adapt to my home to show the proper temperature.  I am lost on that?  What is there to adapt to?  The temperature is the temperature.  The problem I am having is I just installed the thermostat after adding a c-wire, but the ambient temperature it is showing seems to be warm.  My system has been running 4 hours now nonstop to bring the house down 5 degrees.  Granted, it was 105 today, but it has been dark for almost 3 hours and the ac has been running the whole time.  It's finally within a degree of the set point.  Tomorrow I am getting a thermometer to set next to it to check the accuracy of the thermostat.  How long until it's supposed to be accurate?

Hi brothertroy777,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat taking too long to reach your target temperature. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?
  • How big is the difference between the readout of the Nest thermostat and your thermometer?
  • Is there any heat source near your Nest Thermostat?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward
