How to Turn off Home / Away Mode in Google Home App

How do I turn off the home away mode so this piece of **bleep** thermostat stops switching to ECO mode when I am HOME? I don't want it to turn to ECO mode ever but how the **bleep** it turns to ECO mode when I am in the house is beyond me.

Is there a way to do this or am I smashing these thermostats with a hammer and never purchasing ANY Google product again?

Also, is there any way to set up the thermostats in the Nest App? The Google Home App is absolute dog **bleep**, I can't believe this is the best Google could create. It has the interface and functionality of an App made 15 years ago by a High School Kid for his Senior Project. Google should be ashamed of themselves. I bought the Nest Thermostat because I wanted to use the NEST APP, not Google Home but was forced to setup with Google Home.

@Zmondo31 ,

Only the Nest Learning thermostats use the Google Nest App.  Look in the Home app for a thermostat setting to turn off Home/Away.  On the Nest Display, go to SETTINGS > HOME AWAY ASSIST and turn off ECO. When it is off it  will show a green leaf with “Use ECO”.

When I installed the thermostats it asked me if I wanted to use HOME / AWAY. I said No. It still does it.

I've scoured the Google Home App for further settings to ensure it's off but is nowhere to be found.

Great example, I have been home all day but my Thermostats still switch to ECO mode and jack the temperature up to 76. These can't be working as intended??

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. Please check the Activity History in your Nest App (Settings and then Home/Away Assist and then Activity History), or the Activity feed in the Home app (lower right hand tab) - this should provide an explanation of when and why the home state changed over the previous 10 days.

Also, check if Home/Away Assist is correctly reporting whether you were Home or Away. If it’s not right:

  • Check the home’s location in the Nest app. Verify what products are contributing to Home/Away status.
    1. In the Nest App, go to Settings and then Home Away Assist and then What decides if you’re home.
    2. In the Nest App, toggle the Home/Away button, then check if the products are working as intended.

I appreciate the input, @CoolingWizard.

Best,

Jenelyn
