How to reestablish Eco mode after power outage

I set the Nest thermostat at my seasonal cottage on Eco for the winter months. When there is a power outage, it defaults to the regular heat setting. It may be several days before I discover that the furnace has been running almost continuously. Is there a way to deal with this?

Hi Westminsta,

Thanks for reaching out to us. When a power outage occurs, the Nest Thermostat may revert to its default settings, including the regular heat setting instead of Eco mode. To reestablish Eco mode after a power outage, you can follow these steps:

  1. After the power is restored, ensure that the Nest Thermostat has power and is functioning properly. Verify that the display is on and responsive.
  2. Press the thermostat display to bring up the main menu. Navigate to the settings menu using the interface or touch screen.
  3. Within the settings menu, locate the temperature settings and adjust it to the desired Eco temperature. This is typically a lower temperature that helps conserve energy when the cottage is unoccupied.
  4. Check the settings or configuration options for an Eco mode or energy-saving mode. Enable this mode to ensure that the thermostat operates in an energy-efficient manner.
  5. If your Nest thermostat supports scheduling, configure a schedule that aligns with your desired temperature settings during various times of the day or week. This will help maintain energy savings and comfort levels even after a power outage.

Additionally, consider using a battery backup or uninterruptible power supply such as C wire or Nest Power Connector for your Nest Thermostat. This can provide temporary power during short power outages, allowing the thermostat to retain its settings and continue operating normally. By following these steps and considering a backup power solution, you can help ensure that your Nest Thermostat reestablishes Eco mode and operates efficiently after a power outage at your seasonal cottage.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
